why...

There are primarily three reasons why Betty was created.

First, Betty was developed to expedite the help process and to empower BlackBoard users. If a faculty member or student needs help interacting with BlackBoard, the sooner that information is available, the better. Students, faculty, and other BlackBoard users can quickly become frustrated if the only help available to them is buried in FAQ's on some remote Web site, or only available when tech support is available. Betty will relieve that frustration.

Secondly, Betty was developed to decrease the financial and time burden on the BlackBoard tech support staff. The tech support staff is often plagued with an avalanche of routine questions. Answering these questions becomes time consuming and expensive for the tech support staff. Betty is available to relieve some of the workload of the technical support staff and free the tech support staff to focus on the more pressing issues.

An example of the potential time and financial relief realized by using Betty is illustrated in this hypothetical example. This example uses factual data compiled by an independent research firm. (Forrester Research).

The founders of YakFactory and the creators of Betty are university professors, and BlackBoard users. It was the goal of the founders to facilitate learning by the development and application of technology. Betty will help that process.
